1. Summary
OpenPlay is designed to work without an account. Media files you open are played on your device and are never uploaded to our servers.
This policy applies to the OpenPlay website, web player, Windows app and Android app (the “Service”).
2. Data we do not collect
We never collect your media files, file names, folder paths, subtitle contents, thumbnails, notes or playback history. These stay in your device's local storage and you can delete them at any time in Settings.
3. Data we collect
Website visit statistics: page path, language, referring website domain, device type (mobile/desktop) and a daily rotating anonymous visitor hash derived from your IP address and browser with a secret salt that is discarded every day. We do not store IP addresses and we do not use cookies for this. Visits are not counted if your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control.
Optional diagnostics (off by default): if you turn on “Send anonymous diagnostics”, the app sends the media format (container and codec names, e.g. “mp4/hevc”), whether playback succeeded, an error code, app platform, browser family and UI language. This is used to improve compatibility and to show success rates to all users.
4. Purpose and legal basis
Visit statistics: our legitimate interest in operating and improving the Service. Diagnostics: your consent, which you may withdraw at any time by turning the setting off.
5. Retention
Only aggregated daily counts are retained, for up to 25 months. Anonymous visitor hashes are deleted after 2 days.
6. Sharing and processors
We do not sell or share personal data. The website is hosted on Cloudflare and the statistics API on Railway (PostgreSQL), which process data on our behalf. Data may be processed in the United States or other countries where these providers operate.
7. Downloads and links
When you open or save a link, your device connects directly to that website. We do not proxy or log the link. Your download history is stored only on your device.
8. Your rights
You may request access, correction, deletion or restriction of processing, and you may object or lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. Because we do not hold identifying data, in most cases there is nothing to link to you.
9. Children
The Service does not knowingly collect personal data from children.
10. Changes
We will post changes on this page and update the date above. Material changes will be announced in the app.
